2024 Umpire Update

A highlight from the January Board of Directors (BOD) meeting was the unanimous approval of  the following recommendations from the League Umpire Subcommittee:

    1.) An approved budget to pay for umpires from a local umpire association for at least 50% of the Spring 2024 season games

    2.) Approval to pay youth umpires $40/game for umpiring.  An increase from the previous $25/game.

    3.) Volunteer umpires: 50% reimbursement of the registration fee (for one player) if a parent / guardian volunteers to umpire 3 games, and 100% of the registration fee if they umpire 6 games. Previous requirement was 4 or 8 games.

Once implemented, these changes are meant to improve the umpire staffing across all league divisions.  Emphasis for youth umpires will be for Minors Division to encourage umpire development and establish a foundation for higher division officiating.

The BOD recognized the shortfall of umpires and how this impacted the game experience in recent seasons.  The above changes will be evaluated through the Spring 2024 season, data gathered will influence continued implementation.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!  Volunteering remains at the heart of Little League.  We still NEED volunteer umpire support.  The BOD strongly encourages volunteers to come forward to aid in umpiring for our PWCGSLL players.  Training will be provided!  Please contact your league Chief Umpire ([email protected]), or Information Officer ([email protected]) for further information about how you can volunteer to umpire.
